Lot of 2 Antique Sewing Weaving Loom Thread Shuttles
American Industrial Textile tools from the early 19th Century
Made of a smooth wood (most likely maple, dogwood or mahogany). This allows for smooth passage through the warp to prevent splintering.
Gears are also made of wood and still glide smoothly
Note: I have lightened the pics a little so detail was more visible.
One is a "boat shuttle"
This shuttle has a pointed "torpedo" shape handle for weaving
One is a Batten Shuttle used for making labels on ribbons
These were most commonly made and used by H Riehl & Sons or R. G. Pratt. I do not see any marks to determine the maker.
These are really fun sewing and textile memorabilia that adds a fun conversation piece to any collection.
