First edition, first printing hardcover copy of The War Game by Charles Grant (St. Martin’s Press, 1971). A very rare book detailing the study and entertainment in recreating historic battles or crafting unique combat situations in a tabletop setting using miniatures and models. A studious offshoot of the type of gaming such as Dungeons & Dragons but with tactical and historic purposes. Richly illustrated throughout. Jacket is protected in new archival sleeve but with some mild rubbing/scuffing to faces and slight shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creases and small tears. Boards are straight and clean but with corners slightly bumped. Binding is faintly split in a few gutters, but spine is fairly straight and binding remains quite strong on the whole. Previous owner’s inscription on front endpaper, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
